An off-duty Chicago police officer was killed in a crash in Forest View, Ill. Sunday morning, police said.
The off-duty officer was riding a motorcycle traveling south on I-55 and exited the expressway at about 2:05 a.m., police said.
A witness told police that the motorcyclist was stopped at a red light on the ramp at Central Ave. When the light turned green, the officer rode into the intersection and was hit by a car traveling north through a red light, the witness said.
The motorcyclist was killed and Chicago Police News Affairs confirms that the driver is an off-duty Chicago police officer. Authorities have not released the identity of the officer.
Police are investigating the accident. No citations have been issued as of 7 a.m.
