Elliott Nott, 41, was arrested two weeks after the camera was found in a bathroom at Ogden International School at 24 W. Walton St. He is charged with seven felony counts of unauthorized videotaping and one felony count of child pornography.
During a bond hearing, prosecutors said Nott used putty to attach the camera under a sink in the bathroom. At least one child used the bathroom while the camera was recording, they said.
Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesel ordered Nott held on $75,000 bail. If he makes bond and is released from jail, Nott cannot have contact with any of the victims and must surrender his passport.
In a letter to parents earlier this month, school Principal Michael Beyer said a device resembling a camera was found Sept. 7 in a staff bathroom on the third floor of the school’s East Campus. A police statement said the camera was found in a public bathroom.
According to an online biography, Nott was a music teacher for students in kindergarten through fifth grade and a track coach at Ogden International. He studied voice and choral directing at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, where Nott said his father was a professor.
Nott plays guitar for a bluegrass group called The Reclaimers, according to his profile.
School officials had no immediate comment when reached Friday.
